Discovering Melbourne's Artisan Foods and Produce

Casa Nata – Belem Comes To Thornbury

image_pdfimage_print

A highlight when visiting Lisbon is to take a short tram or bus ride to the district of Belem at the mouth of the Targus river and buy the famous Pasteis de Belem, known more widely as Portuguese custard tarts. The centuries old pastry shop at Belem churns these crisp cinnamon flavoured tarts out by the thousands. What makes them so delightful is the light sugary crisp pastry that surrounds the creamy custard and the fact that they are freshly baked. This is why having a dedicated Portuguese tart shop doing the same thing here in Thornbury is such a treat. Casa Nata delayed its official opening because of the COVID-19 pandemic but is opening for restricted hours to allow for pick-up of pre-orders. They also deliver their tarts to surrounding suburbs for iso treats. Check their facebook page for details and any changes to operation and text the owner a day before delivery of your order. 6 tarts $21 12 tarts $38
