Letter in Response to ABC 4 Corners

Take a fresh approach
The exploitation of farm pickers who supply supermarkets is not surprising given the pressure of unrealistic prices on suppliers by the major supermarkets. These practices destroy ethical farmers or endanger young labourers. We, as customers, have the power to make a decision to do our fresh-food shopping elsewhere. Farmers and city markets, green grocers and vegetable-box deliveries are alternatives to shopping for produce at supermarkets. Why not walk with the children to get milk and bread locally or make a weekend trip to markets? With a little planning, we can make choices that are ethical, healthy, fun and benefit the community.
