Farmers markets want proof that stallholders are actually farmers.

cookingmelbourne — I’m happy to see great improvements of these markets over the last few years, especially with the Victorian Farmers’ Market Accreditation Program.  In the early days there was limited choice of fresh produce and far too much of the jams, chutney and plastic wrapped tea cakes, it felt more like a school fete than a proper food market. Now you see much more fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, more diversity, better quality and with less emphasis on snack food stalls. I believe the Collingwood Childrens’ Farm, Abbotsford Convent and Gasworks farmers markets in particular are terrific and can certainly fill the requirements for a weekly food shop. Why not give them a try. Check my link to accredited markets and their details on my home page.
